ReadTomo Extension

ReadTomo — Reading Support for Dyslexia and Learning ("the extension") assists users with reading, pronunciation, and vocabulary by reading text aloud, providing dictionary definitions, translation, simplification and summaries. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your data.

1. Information We Collect

The extension only handles the word, sentence, or paragraph you actively hover over, click, or tap. This text may be sent to:

  • Google Text-to-Speech API (for generating spoken audio)
  • Merriam-Webster Dictionary API (for definitions)
  • Google Translate API (for translation)
  • Claude API (for simplify and summarise)

No account, sign-up, name, or email address is required to use ReadTomo. No other text, browsing history, page content, or personal identifiers are ever collected.

2. How Data Is Used

Data is used only to generate text-to-speech audio, provide dictionary definitions, and provide translations, simplification or summaries — for the text you've selected, in the moment you selected it. The extension never uses data for analytics, tracking, profiling, or advertising.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

The extension does not access or store:

  • IP addresses
  • Cookies
  • Passwords or account details — no account is required
  • Browsing history
  • Any text you don't explicitly select

Items you choose to save (the star/bookmark feature) are stored locally in your browser and are never sent to us. We do not sell, share, or disclose any user information.

4. Third-Party Services

The extension uses:

  • Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API
  • Merriam-Webster Dictionary API
  • Google Translate API
  • Claude API

These services receive only the text necessary to fulfil your request. They do not receive any identifying information.

5. Data Retention & Security

Reading, translation, and simplification requests are processed in real time and discarded immediately — none of that text is stored or logged on our servers. All communication with our backend server is encrypted over HTTPS.
